    This was one of my least favorite of the serial, though that's really not saying much considering how much I loved this story over all. This section involves some harsh conflicts (the "darkest before the dawn" portion of the story), so it was going to be a more difficult read regardless of personal preference. My lower appreciate was mainly due to our hero and heroine having a little more interpersonal drama and misunderstandings than I would have liked. Nothing unbelievable for their established characters, and Brook resolves the personal side of things pretty quickly, but I have an aversion to "big misunderstanding" tropes that sucked some of the enjoyment out of things for me. Luckily, I hated the "villains" far more than I hated the romance trope, setting me up for to hunger for the hoped for triumph in Part VIII...
