This series gets better and better. In my review of the last book, Code Name: Ghost, I said it was my favorite so far. While this story wasn’t as emotional as the last story, I’m still putting this one higher than that one. The pacing was on point and I didn’t want to put this book down.

Although this book can be read as a standalone, I always recommend reading the full series when it comes to any of this author’s works. In this case, Jaime and Cage’s story overlaps with Malik and Anna’s story (again, that’s Code Name: Ghost). Having already read that story and knowing some of what happens with Cage, I was chomping at the bit to find out how it all came to be and what the end result would be.

One of the things I loved about this story is how quickly Cage and Jaime latched onto each other. I know a lot of people don’t like insta-love, but that’s not even what I mean. While in my mind it was insta-love, in the characters’ minds it was not. It was a one-night stand that they didn’t want to give up. Their chemistry is off the charts and they could not keep their hands off each other. Which, in a way, is what makes them think it’s not love. They are confused about what is emotion and what is their physical magnetism, not realizing that they can have both.

Being a reader that hates storylines with a big secret, this one made sense to me. Of course, at a certain point I got annoyed with Cage for wimping out yet again on telling the truth. But I can also give him credit for the times he tried to tell the truth and got interrupted. These two are meant to be and I just knew that love would find a way.

The way Cage’s real life is revealed to Jaime is a whole lot of fun, even while it’s intense and filled with danger. The reactions of her various family members to what happened to Jaime and who Cage really is are honest and interesting and display a really great family dynamic.

As I said, this series keeps getting better and I’m very much looking forward to more.
