Recs if you like A Face Like Glass...

Books that inspired or are similar to Studio Ghibli films

Have you ever wanted a fantasy book with whimsy, but dark? More gothic and twisted and creepy? Then you've come to the right place! Open to recs.

(Broadly defined) Poetic, dreamy, strange, odd fantasy/sci-fi. Doesn’t have to be all of these things at once, mostly it’s fantasy/sci-fi that ‘breaks the norm’ (in style, prose and story)- whatever that means. Or books wonderfully odd, in any sort of way.

I’m not such a fast reader, neither do I have the golden touch finding only books that fit in this list… ‘Breaking the norm’ can be seen as rather subjective, so I’d love any suggestion that you feel fit (and why do you feel they fit?).

This is a list of books representing every pokemon in HeartGold and SoulSilver (So Johto+Kanto regions). For my sanity, this is one book per evo line. The list with match-ups is in the comments✊🏻💚

I don’t want your average fairy courts, I want strange wild creatures with alien minds that aren’t to be trusted

If it has <100 ratings on Pagebound but you've read and are rabid about it, drop that shit in the comments!!!!

Middle-grade novels EVERYONE should read but have been ignored because they are assumed to only be for a younger audience. These books are wonderfully written, they're beautiful, haunting, unique and have been criminaly slept upon.
