Recs if you like State of Paradise...
Not like other title text!
Book covers with typography oriented in non-standard alignments, instead of the typical horizontal + left to right text alignment. Or: graphic design is my passion, and today we are learning about text paths 🙂↕️. This is an immensely silly List, and always open to suggestions—vertical text, circular, upside down, anything goes!
digital dreams / questioning the corporeal
in which digital spaces and new technologies are used to access strange/surreal/absurd/dreamlike planes of being, raising questions around what it means to exist [in a human body] in our technological age. these books play with style and form in testing and questioning the limits of our humanity.
weird fiction 🐧
my favorite genre. elvia wilk’s essay is the best on what this genre is, but here’s an excerpt: “Weird knowledge does not deny the capacity of the human mind and body to produce knowledge, but it does not reduce the world to human subject experience either. Unlike science fiction—in which there is a rational explanation for everything—and fantasy—where magic explains it all—weirdness hovers between poles of explainability.”
weird lit
books that will leave you in a "what did i just read" cloud for weeks after (scifi, horror, contemporary, etc)
Books to Read to Feel Well Adjusted
It’s always nice to feel like a normal person by reading about those more unhinged than you 😌 These are all women focused books. Some I’ve read and some I’m going to read. Apologies in advance if it gets long. Recommendations are absolutely welcome!! So please feel free.
I know a couple are written by men which might be taboo for some but I’ve included because I thought they were appropriate or the author has a track record of writing women well.
The (Wild and Wacky) Sunshine State ☀️
I’m not from Florida but, for some reason, a lot of books I read take place there. Here’s a list for fans of Florida!
weird, unsettling and oddly comforting
shit that's deeply weird but nonetheless comforting to me for some strange reason
there’s something wrong with this house
it’s haunted, it’s evil, it’s gonna eat us alive
The Florida Lit Variety
Fiction books of varying genres set in the USA's Sunshine State. Some books highlight the beauty of Florida, while others highlight the dicey history of the state. And some do neither; they're just here for a good time! There's so much more to our state than beaches, spring break, and amusement parks. Not all books written by Florida locals.
