The Other People

C.J. Tudor

Enjoyment: Quality: Characters: Plot:

A gripping new thriller about a man's quest for the daughter no one else believes is still alive, from the acclaimed author of The Chalk Man and The Hiding Place. Driving home one night, stuck behind a rusty old car, Gabe sees a little girl's face appear in the rear window. She mouths one word: 'Daddy.' It's his five-year-old daughter, Izzy. He never sees her again. Three years later, Gabe spends his days and nights travelling up and down the motorway, searching for the car that took his daughter, refusing to give up hope, even though most people believe that Izzy is dead. Fran and her daughter, Alice, also put in a lot of miles on the motorway. Not searching. But running. Trying to keep one step ahead of the people who want to hurt them. Because Fran knows the truth. She knows what really happened to Gabe's daughter. Then, the car that Gabe saw driving away that night is found, in a lake, with a body inside and Gabe is forced to confront events, not just from the night his daughter disappeared, but from far deeper in his past. His search leads him to a group called The Other People. If you have lost a loved one, The Other People want to help. Because they know what loss is like. They know what pain is like. They know what death is like. There's just one problem . . . they want other people to know it too.

    My Thoughts
I really enjoyed this thriller! However I'm writing this review less than 2 weeks since finishing this and the details are already really fuzzy. While I enjoyed my time reading this, it's just not a story that it extremely memorable or will stick with me for the long run.

This book pulled me in from the very first page! I loved how C.J. Tudor ended each of the POV/chapters with a hook. It made the book so compulsively readable, I never wanted to put this book down! Every time I thought about taking a break at the end of the chapter, something would be revealed and I'd keep flipping the page.

I had so many theories and suspicions while reading this! I had 2 full notebook pages filled with theories while reading. And while none of my guesses were actually that far off from what happening, the book was so intelligently woven, I didn't mind. I loved watching all of the threads and details come together. And I especially loved questioning whether or not this book was paranormal or full based in reality! It's one of my favorite ways for thrillers to build suspense. However, I was completely in love with the actual paranormal elements. I thought the final scene with Alice was just a little unnecessary

This was my first book by C.J. Tudor and it definitely won't be my last! I loved how suspenseful and well written this story was. This book held my attention and kept me enthralled the entire way through. Definitely recommend this if you want a quick, thrilling read!

I didn’t have true expectations going into this but once I was in the meat of the story I didn’t really care about these characters. I was hoping for a weird twist involving the other people and them having a more impactful presence
