Surprise Attraction

Enjoyment: Quality: Characters: Plot:

Three years ago my hot one-night stand got me pregnant. A celebratory night out with friends ended with me going back to Alex’s hotel. I snuck out the next morning leaving a note with the fake name I always use when I meet someone at the bar. Two days later I got a life-shattering phone call. When I arrive at my parents house, Alex opens the door. Then it hits. He’s my stepbrother. Our parents married when I was just a kid and he was leaving for the military. It’s not like we ever knew each other. But we’re about to. I just showed up to my new job and guess who opened the door? Alex. And he’s about to come face to face with the three-year-old secret I’ve been hiding from him.

I'll admit, reading the blurb for this one made me wonder how the author was going to tie all of this together. I am happy to report that this story works really well and I wasn't disappointed at all! It was very well done and things that could have been cringy based on the tropes was not at all.

Alex and Nicole met one night several years ago at a bar. They got along great and had one night together. When Alex woke up the next morning, Nicole was gone, leaving nothing but a note. Fast forward three years and Nicole gets a phone call. She shows up at her parent's house and Alex answers the door. Soon, she figures out that he's her step-brother (they'd never been around each other because he left for the military). He's also going to find out the secret she's been hiding from him for 3 years too (more than who she is/was). I liked both of these characters and I appreciated the dual POV. We got to see how they both felt about situations and how they unfolded.
