Every year, Six Mile Island has a seasonal shutdown for serious weather. This year, the forecast is calling for the storm of a century, so most of the population has agreed to an evacuation in order to more safely ride out the storm on the mainland. When a child goes missing on the cusp of the oceanic storm, a select few inhabitants are left behind to perform a frantic search. Little do they know that the ocean is bringing more than a storm to Six Mile... An ancient species hungers from the sea.

an absolute sleeper hit, this was nuts! ✨the setting✨the characters✨the pacing✨the tension✨. we’ve got mystery, horror, heartache, and romance all neatly bundled up into a jaw-dropping (iykyk) midnight mass/block island sound-vibe story. not for those with a weak stomach. the characters all have satisfying arcs and even though the pov changed every few pages it did not feel whiplashed at all. my only small qualm is i wish there was a slightly clearer connection between the last chapter and the rest of the book in terms of lore, assuming this is more of an underling situation? i can’t rationalize how those introduced in the last chapter would’ve benefited from all this (but i’m someone who needs full-circle thinking and logic to function). otherwise this was incred, all the stars.
