Recs if you like Over Sea, Under Stone (The Dark is Rising, #1)...

JK Rowling is a bigot who uses her platform to hurt transfolks and other marginalized groups (plus she literally just quoted Mein Kampf on the bird site). If you're still supporting her in 2025, don't bother talking to me.

Books featuring mythology, legends and folklore from England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland. (For the purpose of this list 'Ireland' encompasses the entirety of Ireland (Northern & Republic) as the historical mythos is largely the same since the split happened in the 1900's.)

Fiction to read when riding that Stranger Things high, with similar vibes, references or stories. Sometimes called the "kids on bikes" genre, this is a mix of small town horror, scifi and speculative fiction. Also the tie-in novels for Stranger Things itself, as that inspired this list.

Non-exhaustive list of foundational reading for the fantasy genre; either foundational texts or classics that influenced the development of the genre and its conventions. Also some key modern texts + criticism.

As the name of the list suggests, these are books inspired by Welsh / Wales folklore, myths, history, etc. Absolutely open to recommendations!

(As this is very niche, I may end up expanding it to include Scottish and Celtic folklore as well, but for now we'll start with Welsh.)

A collection of older, lesser-known, fantasy (or science fantasy) books written by incredible women. In a time when female fantasy authors were few and far between, these authors carved out their own space in the genre. These stories might not be mainstream hits today, but they are full of brilliant magic, deep characters, and/or worlds that helped shape the genre. (First in Series / standalones only for now - open to suggestions!)

The kind of books that make youngins dream of adventure, and call adults back home to for a cozy reread.

The legend that never stopped being told. From medieval romances to modern retellings, these are the stories of knights, quests and camelot dreams that keep pulling you back to the round table.

I have been a long-time fan of Arthurian lit, to the point that I actually took two separate classes in University that covered themes of Arthurian tales, which also increased my library. These are books I actively own, and most of which I have read or at least used in my writing on the Arthurian Age. I do wish I could make comments on the books themselves, as several of these require a little explanation, but if you have any questions, feel free to leave questions or other book suggestions.
