Once upon a time a boy went into the woods to pray… 200 years later, there’s a multibillion dollar denomination with a reputation of conservatism, homophobia, racism, sexism, and more… How did it go from its beginnings to nowadays? This list will include books on early church history, other denominations in the restoration movement, gender, race, temples, and more. Books on this list were published by academic presses or reviewed by academic journals. I will be adding more to this list.

The A side of Mormonism is everything you've heard: homophobia, racism, sexism, and violent colonialism. The B Side is everything you don't see: the LGBTQ+ folks who are still among us, the anti-racist voices we've had since the beginning, deep pockets of Mormon feminism that have existed since before the ERA, and true reckonings with our violent past. The voices fighting for our people to have a different future.

To share a well-rounded glimpse into the world of current and former members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. All voices are welcome here. This list does not aim to construct or deconstruct faith. Rather, the goal of this list is to shares the stories and perspectives of individuals and changemakers.
