Recs if you like Banana Fish, Vol. 1...

an extremely unserious list of manga featuring the dark-haired boys (usually more normal) with white haired boyfriends (scary, inhuman, or otherwise unnerving), will include series with manga where the boys are "just friends" but have boyfriend esque chemistry. the pairing may not feature in the first issue as listed but that is what i'll include. dark haired boys with blonde boyfriends will be added if felt to suitably fit the trope.

🌹Genre-defining, highly popular, and influential classics of Shoujo (girls') manga, all bestsellers in their demographic or influential series by the Year 24 Group.🌹

✨The Year 24 Group was a group of manga creators (mangaka), all women, who redefined shoujo manga in the 1970s, focusing on contemporary problems and high-stakes, emotional drama as well as defining shoujo's signature style of big, emotional splash pages, beautiful men, using imagery to illustrate emotional states, and on-panel text to denote inner thoughts - all visuals used across all genres of manga to this day. The Year 24 Group is also credited with creating the genre of BL, aka BoysLove, sometimes called shounen ai, as well as pioneering GL, GirlsLove or yuri.✨

🎀All of these have official English releases and were first printed in magazines for girls.🎀

💖Expect sparkles, pounding hearts, and romance, and BL, but also science fiction, fantasy, action and melodrama!💖

Manga and novels that offer more extensive storylines, different interpretations, or completely different storylines than their anime counterparts. This usually happens due to changes during the adaptation process or in the case of tie-in manga intended for a different audience than the original series.

If you're looking for manga that's better than its anime interpretation, check out my list 'Don't Watch the Anime!'

Manga that I feel in my soul is subtextually or explicitly queer.

(mostly sapphic) good queer books on my personal wishlist that have an added benefit of looking beautiful on the shelf!

curated list of my fave fiction that have authentic and in-depth portrayals of the bi+ experience—often through intersections with gender expansiveness and the aromantic/asexual spectrums—as attraction that transcends gender, and/or the unique simultaneous embodiment of homosexuality and heterosexuality.

Manga that have anime adaptations.

if only i knew straightness wasn’t a requirement in the kinds of books i loved. always updating with more! mostly angsty romance, instrospective scifi, cozy fantasy.

my favourite manga with thoughtful queer rep!

these are some of the mangas i’ve found to be Must Reads. more so, i want a community of people who have read those and are interested in talking about it. 🫶

pov: you’re nine years old and unboxing your mother’s old, dusty books and vintage toys, which will soon become a core memory of your girlhood. ༺❀♡❀༻ coming-of-age feminine stories that are old-fashioned, wondrous and romantic.

Mostly books with characters that gave vibes of being on the spectrum- as someone in it myself. (Some are canon diagnosed)

Just some of my favorite stories and I think that would be good picks for people that are new to manga or looking for some good recs🤍
