Recs if you like The Black Flamingo...

If we are going to do Qwordy's the Hardest Reading Challenge You'll Ever Do 3.0 - we should probably get some Pagebound badges along the way! I'm specifically going to be adding books from Quests and readalongs that go past the July start date and match at least one of these title prompts: Periodic Table, Familial Terms, Rainbow of Words (also Joseph's coat), Numerical Titles, Titular Counting 5+, Pun in the Title, and First & Last Name in the Title. Recommendations welcome!

Beautiful books for when your monthly reading roundup needs a little facelift 😉

A non-comprehensive list of Queer books.

Books where the main character is black and part of the lgbt community! A lot of these came from recommendations on a post I made here, thank you to everyone who replied! And feel free to recommend more! :)

Stories told in connected poetry! For lovers of poetry, yes, but also an accessible way to get into poetry as a medium for storytelling. Please do feel free to send suggestions!

All are very welcome to this list, but I've geared it towards my fellow neurospicy folk with busy Brains who need some high dopamine sparks from their books...and for it to not take forever for us to read a book and we lose our interest/hyperfocus 🤣🥰

All of these are from the list that Texas lawmaker Matt Krause in October of 2021 tried and in many cases succeeded to get banned from classrooms and school libraries. There are quite a few interesting and odd choices in there which is part of why I wanted to share this list on here. Not necessarily recommendations but there are some pretty good books on here. As well as a lot of textbooks

Yes, that has been said to me. 😐 Fiction featuring Black characters that are also queer. :)

To understand the racial hierarchy in the United States, you have to understand the language Black and mixed race people have been using to describe it since the end of the American Civil War.

Reconstruction gave birth to "the Color Line" phrase. It describes the legal and social boundaries between Black and White and the entire racial hierarchy that exists between them in the United States.

An essential resource for the American mixed and multiracial experience.

I thought it would be nice to have all of them in one long list.

In October 2021, Texas State Representative Matt Krause initiated an inquiry targeting a list of approximately 850 books in Texas public schools, alleging they could cause "discomfort, guilt, anguish, or any other form of psychological distress" regarding race or sex. The list disproportionately targeted LGBTQ+ topics, race/racism, and sex education.

This is my project to read through this list for myself - utilizing my local library system for access to these titles. Follow the journey or join along!
