The last time I saw my little brother’s best friend was before I’d left for boot camp when she still had pigtails and braces. Now Samantha Kohler is all grown up and home for the summer with an offer I can’t refuse. Twelve weeks of casual fun? Hell yes. The problem is I’ve only ever had serious relationships and don’t know how to do no-strings-attached. But Sam has plans to complete her PhD and is moving out of state at the end of the August, so a future together is impossible. With the countdown on, I collect as many of her smiles, kisses, and moans as I can. Yet it’s not enough. I want more. A summer fling, that’s all we’re supposed to be. Or is it? Content Tangled Hearts is a steamy and angst-filled open-door romance between a commitment-phone academic and a Marine vet struggling with a combat injury and PTSD. It also includes some discussion of an eating disorder. *Previously published as Flirting with Mr. Serious by Suzanne Baltsar

Sam and Mike grew up as friends, but life has carried them into different lives and experiences. Sam comes home for the summer to help her dad fix up his house so he can sell it. She finds out that Mike is staying next door with his parents after he came home from the Marines and required help with rehabilitation. Sam is guarded with relationships because of what happened during her parent's divorce. Mike lost everything including his girlfriend when he was injured and he no longer feels whole. He doesn't feel like he can put himself out there and make himself vulnerable. They agree to a physical relationship while Sam is home for the summer. Soon, though, they are sharing more than time together. Can they make it the real thing? Or is it all over when summer ends?
