John Madison Darwin is a marginally talented statistician for a marginally important government agency, but he's finally fed up with writing reports on pork consumption trends in the Midwest. He hates his job, loathes his girlfriend, and is consumed by the existential ennui and apathy of any guy in his early thirties. After a (disappointingly anticlimactic) breakup with his longtime girlfriend while writing an aimless parody of a popular and equally aimless poem, he decides to embark on a journey to fulfill his lifelong dream: to appear as a guest on his favorite comedy news program. In order to do this, he, with his friend and sidekick Carrie, set out writing the worst possible novel they possibly can...setting in motion a series of bizarre events beyond his dreams--or nightmares. DEAD TREE VERSION is a satirical, parodic comedy and social-commentary that is "an assault on pop-culture, subculture, counterculture--and good taste."
