Capturing the attention of a dangerously sexy fae leader was never part of my plan. I wanted to finish college, get a job, and maybe find a nice guy to date. Instead, I end up forced to work alongside the very fae who gets under my skin like no man ever has. I can’t stand him, but I also can’t deny the tension that ignites whenever he’s close. After surviving my run-in with the fae, I planned to go back to my perfectly mapped future and forget they existed. Silly me, I should have known that silver-tongued Tristan wouldn’t leave me alone. And maybe I don’t want him to. But when my brother falls ill to a sickness not even fae magic can cure, none of my plans matter anymore. And before I have a moment to catch my breath, both my life and my heart are put in danger when Tristan’s fae nemesis emerges and forces me to make a terrible choice. One I don’t know I’ll survive.

Aurora is the terrified bad-ass we all wish we could be in moments of danger. Face death with fear? I think not! Have some sarcastic one-liners instead! I adore this about her. While at times I did feel like her relationships with others could seem a bit forced, mainly her best friend Allison, she seemed like a pretty well-rounded character with purpose.
Tristan. I won't say he's my type or anything because brooding, handsome dudes are just not my thing. But I can see what Aurora sees. He does over time become a multi-dimensional character and even somewhat relatable.
As for the story itself, it's heavily a romance with just a sprinkle of fantasy. I don't read a lot of romance-centric books so this was definitely a different type of thing for me. On that same note, I felt for it being a fantasy-type book, it could have used a little more world building. It didn't feel like there was enough information about the Fae or their world.
*Edited to add* As I was in bed trying unsuccessfully to fall asleep, I started to wonder about their feeding process. It's heavily reliant on humans. Which doesn't make sense to me since they come from a different world. But maybe that will be explained in the next book.
This was definitely a fast-paced read. I read the whole thing in two nights and I enjoyed every minute of it (even when I was dying inside). And get this, there's not just ONE twist at the end, but TWO! My mind was reeling and I'm going to sit here impatiently waiting for the sequel!
Full disclosure: I did read an earlier version of this book that had few similarities to what it is now. I do occasionally have some twitter banter w/ the author (and other authortube friends). I purchased my own copy of this book for review.
I received a copy via the author for an honest review.
This was a great debut novel. I couldn’t even tell that this was her first book! A case of mistaken identity leads Aurora to be kidnapped by the fae. This will change her life in ways that she couldn’t see coming!
Aurora was a good heroine. She started off with so much sass that I loved her instantly. She wasn’t afraid to speak her mind at all. Especially to Tristan. Tristan was great! He had so many layers to him. He was sweet, he was demanding, and arrogant. He oozed sexiness.
These two together makes me so happy. I loved the dynamic of their relationship. The back and forth between them and the banter had me turning the pages on my kindle at a quick rate. His sexy arrogance and her defiance made for some great foreplay for them!
The secondary characters also made this book. I loved Allison, Skylar, and even Max. I can’t wait to read more about them, maybe get some more backstory on them?
This did not end how I expected! I can’t wait to see how the dynamic is in the next book! If you love fantasy and good romance, then you should definitely read this one!
