ACUTE REACTIONS: (3/5 stars) This was almost a DNF at Chapter 25, I may just skip to the end. Petra and Ian are well written and funny, i love Petra’s inner Hippocrates. But the growth they’re going through *stresses me out*. They just had the climactic “big problem” that precedes the HEA and my heart is pounding and I’m not having fun. Petra has anxiety. She has anxiety and that fact is u diagnosed and unexamined. I would hope figuring that out is part of her HEA? But in the meantime following her story is giving me anxiety. I just want to hit her with a sedative dart and smack her around. There’s a sweet spot on the anxiety curve where you’re anxious enough to achieve things but no so anxious that you turn your whole life into a dumpster fire. I don’t think I can wait for Petra to slide back down from dumpster fire.
Ok, ok, after writing my little rant and skipping ahead a bit, I finished Ian’s and Petra’s story. Petra magically stops being anxious (boo) but everything else was fun.
HARD KNOCKS: (4/5 stars) Helen is a much less stressful read, despite her trauma. And Adam is a delight. 10/10, would date.
CLEAN BREAKS (4/5 Stars) My favorite of the bunch, which is a surprise. I hadn’t liked Sarah much in past books. This story was the most enjoyable, though Jake isn’t as adorable as Adam (their brief bromance was adorable, however). Winston is a weird story appendage that doesn’t make sense as anyone’s friend, but I guess there had to be an intermediary friendship to explain Sarah and Jake knowing each other but Jake not supporting her in a forgivable way.
