Basically, a huge list of every book I ever heard features sapphic characters.

I have not read all of these, so I cannot be sure of the amount of the time on page of the sapphic characters or of the quality of the books.

Some of these I do not plan to read at all, since they are not my style. If you feel like a book doesn't belong here, let me know.

A collection of books that explore time travel in all its forms; from romance and second chances to sci-fi adventures and shifting timelines.

All of these are from the list that Texas lawmaker Matt Krause in October of 2021 tried and in many cases succeeded to get banned from classrooms and school libraries. There are quite a few interesting and odd choices in there which is part of why I wanted to share this list on here. Not necessarily recommendations but there are some pretty good books on here. In October 2021, Texas State Representative Matt Krause initiated an inquiry targeting a list of approximately 850 books in Texas public schools, alleging they could cause "discomfort, guilt, anguish, or any other form of psychological distress" regarding race or sex. The list disproportionately targeted LGBTQ+ topics, race/racism, and sex education.

This is my project to read through this list for myself - utilizing my local library system for access to these titles. Follow the journey or join along!

Need to feel like you're far removed from everything? These books all take place on islands - big or small, real or made up, friendly or scary. I won't add books set, say, on modern day Bali, because that's not the feeling of remoteness I'm aiming for (unless it's about Bali being cut-off from the rest of the world or some such). Happy to see your recs in the comments!

books that make you feel like you’re on drugs, while also feeling like you should be taking drugs to properaly appreciate the book or the “wtf is going on” books

These books are built around ideas more than plot. What makes a thing or a person what it is/who they are? What is reality? In a patriarchal society, what happens if we take men out of the equation? Leaning into the philosophical without reading like a textbook, they offer interesting characters, good writing, and much to think about. (Recs are welcome. I will not add novels that offer interesting ideas, but make me think they should have been a short story. Short story collections are fine.)

Stories in which a building is a main character.

Fiction books that outright tackle misogyny, or have feminist undertones. For every reader out there who's tired of being met with toxic/misogynist behaviour in stories that is presented as acceptable, or even romantic, and those who want to learn about the female perspective.
