I received this book free in exchange for my honest review.

    This review may contains spoilers.

“I do care about you, and I do want you safe. I want you to be strong and powerful, and not just for the selfish reason of needing someone who will change Breeda for the better, but because you deserve to be that woman who needs nothing and no one and shines like an eternal flame.”

This story follows Calla, the Princess of Breeda and the next inline to the thrown; and Griffyn, an assassin and Demi-god.
They're paths cross when Griffyn is hired to do a job. But because the target and Calla have similar features he takes are instead by mistake. They work out a deal, where she now owes him a life debt. After letting her leave, Griffyn decides to follow his investment,  and ends up saving Calla from herself. Because that's just so happens to be the day her magic comes to fruition, revealing her to be a halfling.
Long story short Griffyn is hired has Calla's guard and they embark on a journey to the fea lands to find someone to help Calla control her power.
While there Calla learns something that she's been holding on to isn't true; and Griffyn learns the truth about himself.

From start to finish I wanted to know more, lol, than again it is only the beginning. Both characters have insecurities that impact their feelings towards each other and I felt like it was highlighted alot. But one night things get a little spicy, so this story is most definitely a slow burn. At the end they end up in different directions with new revelations and your left wanting to know what's next and how will their paths will come back together.
