Jhumpa Lahiri took the literary world by storm when her debut collection, Interpreter of Maladies, won the Pulitzer Prize in 2000. Lovely prose by Ms. Lahiri. She had me connect with the characters, even the ones I really wanted to hate.

I had a problem with The Namesake, I just don't know exactly what it was. Perhaps it was the nonexistent plot or the fact that the story was more bitter than sweet. It could be that I felt the narration bloated with unnecessary details at times.

While I really enjoyed reading it and loved that I could connect to the descriptions of India, I didn't love it. I wanted to though.
