In the shadow of war, love may be her greatest enemy... Nyleeria has always lived in the shadow of loss, with only her childhood friend to bring light to her days. But when an ancient power is discovered within her, everything changes. Her family is torn apart by tragedy, and she is thrust into a conflict that has smoldered between humans and fae for centuries. King Thaddeus, a human ruler hardened by the endless war against the fae, seeks to protect his kingdom at any cost. When he discovers Nyleeria’s dormant magic, he knows it could be the key to his people's survival. But the closer Nyleeria gets to the King, the more she realizes that her greatest danger may not be the Spark or the fae—but the feelings he stirs within her. As the veil between realms grows thinner, Nyleeria must navigate a path filled with peril, where trust is a luxury and love could be the most dangerous weapon of all. Torn between duty and desire, she must decide what they are willing to sacrifice—for her people, for him, and for a future that hangs in the balance.

I’m very grateful to have received an e-ARC of this book!
This book is great for ACOTAR lovers.
In this book we follow Nyleeria as she goes through life as the black sheep of her family. After tragedy strikes, it’s revealed that she has magic that could help save a kingdom.
I love the take on both the fae and human realms/kingdoms in this book. We get different fae courts and the representation of the courts are all so different but suit their court so well.
I love Nyleeria’s character so far! She’s open but cautious, determined but has boundaries. I had a feeling about where the romance was going and I’m glad I was getting it right on the nose. I can’t wait to see where the romance aspect goes in the next book!
I love that the supporting characters aren’t extremely superficial and have some depth to them but there aren’t so many that you can’t keep track of them all.
The ending was so good and I can’t wait to see where the story goes.
This was a great fantasy read.
The human realm has long since forgotten about fae and their kingdoms. The FMC has not had the greatest of lives up until now, her childhood best friend turn lover has been betrothed to further his family’s ambitions, her siblings are well loved and cared for and leading their lives, but she is stuck at home with her parents who say she is cursed.
After a traumatic event she finds the Human King at her door to tell her she is “special” and the missing link.
Kick off a whirlwind of events including harnessing her special powers, travelling off to the fae realm. The political themes and world building kept me so intrigued throughout.
I can’t wait for more to come.
