We have sex, violence, and a new creature that drops from the forest canopy and eats you for lunch. “Emergence” is a sci-fi/horror novel that draws upon genetics, humour, and a mythical creature, the Stiyaha. Captain Alan Wickey: is a veteran who is broken, twisted, and pissed about it. He thought that flying home to his family from the dusty hell of Afghanistan would be a relief - It wasn’t. His brain didn't function properly. He hated traffic, schedules, and adult responsibilities; he loved vodka, painkillers and juvenile behavior. Karen, his geneticist wife was losing patience with his shenanigans; and asked him to pack up his bags and move out. Alan cannot catch a break. During his regular jog along a mountainside trail, a shadowy creature dropped from the rainforest canopy. The spiny fiend sank its teeth deep into his throat. Luckily for Alan, his blood was too rotten with alcohol, drugs and the residue of his broken will. Disgusted by his meal, the creature leaves Alan to die but the soldier survives. Alan is left the only witness to a stealthy, undiscovered race of tree-dwelling creatures. Creatures that have turned towards the most plentiful food source on earth, humans.
