Trope: characters are forced to engage in sexual intimacy or risk death. Often used to alleviate sexual tension that already exists between characters, but not always.

Ex:

• being exposed to aphrodisiacs or “sex pollen”
• kidnapped and forced to fuck each other or be murdered
• protagonist on a new planet needs cum to live
• a curse/spell that can only be broken by sex

Inherently a dub-con/non-con trope since one cannot freely consent to sex while under threat of death.

The Spice Level: Unhinged list is reserved for stories that don’t just cross the line—they erase it entirely. These are the books where tension burns slow and then explodes, where magic and darkness collide with obsession, and where love is anything but safe. Expect morally gray to black (or outright dangerous) characters, power dynamics that bite, and relationships that blur the line between devotion and destruction.
