This one was terrible. But good. But also terrible. It was painfully obvious from clues in the first book that Liam was probably abused in some way by his uncle. Well, the reality was far worse than imagined. The details given about the abuse were... whew ... heartbreaking.
But let’s back up a bit and start from the beginning. This book is the second book in the Reckless Rockstar Series. The Reckless Rockstar Series is a follow up to the Men on Fire series, which was a follow up to the Perfect Game, The Mitchell Sisters, and the Stone Brothers series. This series features the rock group Reckless Alibi that Brett’s little sister Bria is a part of (Brett from the Men on Fire series). But other characters from all the series make cameo appearances here and there as well. In book one, we saw how Bria and Crew fell in love. This book, we get Liam’s story.
Like I said before, Liam’s story is full of heartbreak and terribly descriptive child sexual abuse. So he has a lot of issues. He meets and instantly falls for Ella, but doesn’t think he deserves to be with her. Doesn’t think he CAN be with her. Not in the way she needs. So he convinces her to be a friend/muse. Because she’s helped bring his music back. They eventually fall in love. But with Liam’s problems, can love be enough?
I cannot stress enough how this may not be the story for a lot of people. The abuse is too real and it’s too in your face. And although therapy is mentioned, we never see Liam get any professional help so the idea that he can successfully begin a loving and physical relationship just by sheer patience and perseverance is highly unlikely, but seeing him able to love Ella was nice. Seeing him get some bit of closure with his past was nice. Seeing the band finally start to make it big was satisfying.
Garrett’s book is next. And if his past is as traumatic as Crew and Liam’s, then we have another bout of heartache ahead.
