Ash is an ambitious fae who wants to be part of the crowned guard for the queen. To prove her strength, she takes down a dragon on her own. This book is the prequel to its series, background story for Ash. It moves really fast and throws a lot at you in only 90 pages. It was a little too YA for me. The dialogue had a lot of angst and aggression that I would have loved as a teenager. Overall, I think it was a good story, especially with the not so happy ending (the author warns about this in the description)
