Essential writings from Black feminists.

The texts I taught in my grad course on Black feminist literature and theory

A list of notable plays written throughout history. Not only do these make for great stage productions, they're also fantastic reads.

personal, poetic, or literary Black Feminist/Womanist works. suggestions and/or corrections always welcome!

Books with black people in it (mostly as the mains characters)

Both Fiction and Non fiction books.

i realised there’s not many list solely focused on anything theatre, so i thought i would use my acting and aspiring playwright background to recommend some of the best modern british plays i’ve watched, read or, not to toot my own horn too much, performed in. i try to make it diverse as possible too!

(the galatea book wouldn’t let me do a separate book so make sure you get the adapted by emma frankland and subira joy as it is the trans and disabled retelling)

plays I think everyone should read! special attention paid to: scripts you can still get a lot out of with just what’s on the page, careful curation from our most prolific/famous playwrights, diversity in many forms

did you know women have been nominated for best play at the tonys 45 times!!! over 79 years!!! and 3 of those times were for translating Jean Anouilh!!! and including translation have won 6 whole times!!!! and 3 women have won as sole playwright!!! broadway is soooo progressive you guys.

edit: i realize this is not complete yet sorry

Plays related to social justice topics

books that changed me in ways I don’t know how to explain

trying to ensure i know what i own and what i need to read stilll

Just for me to keep track of what I wanna read next honestly
