Lost Boy

There is one version of my story that everyone knows. And then there is the truth. Once I loved a boy called Peter Pan. Peter brought me to his island because there were no rules and no grownups to make us mind. He brought boys from the Other Place to join in the fun, but Peter’s idea of fun is sharper than a pirate’s sword. He wants always to be that shining sun that we all revolve around. He’ll do anything to be that sun. Peter promised we would all be young and happy forever. Peter will say I’m a villain, that I wronged him, that I never was his friend. Peter Lies.

Bloodthirsty, twisted, dark. The classic characteristics of an excellent Christina Henry book.

I've always loved peter pan stories growing up, the dark undertones of child kidnapping and the sorts, the stories never felt fully childish/innocent. This book takes any hints of darkness and ramps it straight up to 11. The twists and turns kept me hooked through each chapter, the insane twist on the last couple pages. Everything gets wrapped up in a nice blood-stained bow in the end but is still left open, though I don't think a sequel would be needed.

I love all of CH's books, but this has to be my favourite one so far. It's just so good.

I absolutely LOVED this. I loved the characterization of Peter Pan. He was certainly evil without being overtly evil. He just comes across as a spoiled and selfish little boy, who does sociopathic things. All the stuff about him taking the boys so he can keep him and Jamie young forever so they can always be together. It was so creepy?? That Peter would rather kill Jamie than have him leave?? I don't know. Peter was just perfectly characterized in this book for me. Loved every second of this.
