There is a lot to love about this story. I’ve been waiting for Jax to find his HEA for a very long time. I think Jordan is the perfect partner for him, but he meets her because she consults him about getting a wedding dress made…for her wedding. I wouldn’t go so far as put a content warning for cheating on this book, but I must admit it all comes down to what your definition of cheating happens to be. I’ll explain what I mean throughout this review.
Both Jordan and Jax are very aware that, although she is engaged to another man, their chemistry was immediate and undeniable. In fact, Jordan cut their consultation short and high-tailed it out of Jax’s office because she was so uncomfortable with the feelings she was having. Of course, it’s apparent pretty quickly that Jordan’s fiancé is a jerk and is not the right man for her. That did not stop my feeling that Jax was often dipping his toe over the line, and Jordan was being too lenient. There is not any physical cheating at all. Yet the extent of the flirting and innuendo was really inappropriate. Honestly, it made me a bit unsure of Jax at the beginning. As the story progresses and it becomes obvious Jordan would be so much better off with Jax, and Jax is trying to show her she deserves to be treated better in a true way and not just to get in her pants, I came to terms with his methods. But that doesn’t mean it won’t bother some people. The author does a beautiful job of having Jax’s father and some other relatives be the stand-in for the reader when Jax is going too far with his actions toward Jordan, and that really helped with me finding their actions as acceptable. I promise Jordan eventually comes to her senses so they aren’t toeing that line through the entire book.
There is more to this story than Jax and Jordan’s potential relationship and Jordan’s need to do what will make her happy and not what is expected of her. Jordan has a tragic backstory, having lost her parents and little sister in a car accident when she was young. There is so much more to Jordan’s past and it’s a great introduction to what I’m sure will be plenty more stories to be told in the Love in Bloom universe.
