None Left to Tell is a gripping tale of three women connected by one of the most brutal mass slayings in the history of the United States.

This story follows three women and shows how they are all connected. Lucy, 10 years prior, was forced to leave her home in Illinois because of an anti-Mormon mob. Katrina, a young mother of four, will do anything to protect her family, which proves to be more difficult than she could have ever imagined. Lastly, young Sally was “gifted” to a man as his fourth wife. Sally is trying to make the best of her new life, but when her husband insists on joining a group of religious zealots and plans for revenge, she can’t see eye to eye, forcing her to make difficult decisions for survival.

None Left to Tell is not for the faint-hearted. This is a grim tale highlighting the harsh realities of life in the 1800s. Normally, I wouldn’t gravitate toward a story with a history-heavy focus, but I’m more than willing to read anything by Noelle W. Ihli. If anyone is going to convince me to read something out of my comfort zone, it will be this author, and I am so happy I took the chance.

One of the many reasons I enjoy this author is her ability to write compelling characters, and this story was no different. I felt so much empathy for each of these characters despite not understanding the difficulties they are living through. But again, the writing makes the reader feel like they are alongside these characters, living these hardships. With None Left to Tell, based on actual events of the Mountain Meadows Massacre, it’s an emotional ride from beginning to end. I thoroughly enjoyed everything about this novel, I couldn’t put it down. The characters, the writing, the three individuals' stories, and how they are all connected. It was an incredible ride. It was dark and had some upsetting moments, but that was just what it was like back then, and this novel provided the reader with some insight. It was an educational experience that, for me, didn’t end after I finished the book. I was Googling all about this mass slaying.

Whether this isn’t your type of genre, I highly recommend this read.

This is the second book I've read from Ms. Noelle W. Ihli (after Run On Red) and I can say... this is waaaaay much better!

I rarely read Historical Fiction — the last time was probably around 2019 — because of how it makes me feel most of the time, bored and sometimes not interested (please don't come at me it's just not my choice for reading). So, I requested a copy of this thinking, "Oh, okay Ms. Noelle is going to release another book. The title and cover looks interesting. Run On Red was fun, I'll go request this one too." I was granted one thanks to Netgalley and Dynamite Books, that's when I realized that it's based on true events and it's a historical-thriller vibe, not just thriller.

I was skeptical at first, but I haven't read it yet, so why not give it a try right? NOW I'M HAPPY I DID! This is a 5⭐ read for me.

Yes, it was hard to memorize each character and which group they belonged to. Add the fact that I was going thru a reading slump when I started reading this. So it was really a struggle for me at first, but after a few chapters and when the characters grew on me, I was flipping page after page after page. It was unbelievable that this is based on true events. That THIS really happened before. I was heartbroken and wanted to cry most of the time.

    Ms. Noelle really outdid herself.

    Rating: 4 1/2 heartbreaking stars.

Going into this book, I have to be honest in that I had never heard of the Mountain Meadows Massacre. I love how much care Ihli put into creating this historical fiction thriller and now it has me educating myself on this historical tragedy.

Before going into this book, this is going to be a lot different from her normal thrillers so it might not be for everyone. Also make sure to read the content warning beforehand as well.
