Recs if you like The Heartbreak Hotel...

Books We Love from NPR began in 2013, always boasting over 200 books (almost 400 in recent years) featuring genres from memoirs, to cookbooks, to graphic novels, to children’s literature, to nonfiction, to novels. Check out NPR’s website to filter this massive list.

The list is in reverse alphabetical order directly from NPR.

Here's every book so far from BOTM's monthly shortlist since February 2015 for anyone who wants to read them all like I do!

Titles that feature alliteration and we love to see it. Recommendations requested to round out this remarkably ridiculous recital.

Breakfast will be served between the hours of 7 and 10 am

Books set in B&Bs, Inns, and the like

Suggestions are always welcome and appreciated!

Nothing fires me up faster than a book girlie kicking her trash ex to the curb in chapter one 🔥📖

✨ One: I live for the righteous fury when he does something unforgivable.
✨ Two: I know the next love interest is going to worship the ground she walks on.

If you’re like me and love seeing a messy man get replaced by someone who actually knows how to treat her right, here are four recs with top-tier ex-boyfriend drama (and even better glow-ups)

Romance books with fall vibes: cozy setting, festive activities, leafy covers or a little bit of something spooky and supernatural!

All the 2025 BOTM monthly, add on, and Allurial titles

All these books made me cry heaps, mainly from themes of loss and grief (so please ensure you read any TW)

books i’ve read (and liked) that made me feel the cozy calm (or dark grit) of fall

no rhyme or reason, just ✨vibes✨

**i’m including some cozy fantasy/spooky season/fall-occurring books, but this list is also meant to expand beyond those limited sub-genres to include books i think would hit different if read during fall or majorly incorporate elements i associate w fall like mountains/forests, adventures, murder, small towns, seasons of change/hardship, grittiness, dark academia, pirates, etc

Someone asked for autumnal, southeastern book recs and I realized... I don't have any lol. My favorites always make their way back to the west side so this is a shout out to these under-appreciated romantic power of sunny California, the moody PNW and my beloved Vancouver!

there's nothing quite like the forced proximity of a shared living space 😉

there is a lot of fantasy here because fantasy just feels like fall to me 😭🙏
