The world’s most prestigious summer music camp can make or break you... A viral video lands me a scholarship to Camp Harmony, but they don’t want the real me. They want Ashley, the pop star. I spend the summer pretending to be someone I’m not, until I sneak out to see my favorite metal band perform. Behind their masks, the Basilisks understand what it’s like to belong in a world where you feel different. Zed, Ripper and Venom’s lyrics touch my soul and make my heart sing. After a crazy night on their tour bus, my life will change forever, but I have to be careful... Sinister secrets and corruption hide behind Camp Harmony’s beautiful lake views. When two worlds collide, I face losing more than my future as a singer.

I was really surprised at just how much I loved the book. It is my first rockstar romance so I can't compare it to any others yet (maybe when I do a re-read).

I loved the whole camp vibes, I felt like it was a unique idea. The only other book I've read with camp vibe was a YA one so to see it in a why choose novel was really good. As someone who enjoys the same kind of music as Ash it felt so nice to be seen as not many books contain that kind of music/vibes unless it is a dark romance.

Ash herself is an amazing, strong woman who I can sympathise with because even at 22 I still struggle with figuring out who I want to be. Her music is her expression and when she gets rejected from the camp at first, she feel like her whole life is over. That is until her best friend releases a video of her singing something totally unlike what she put to the camp, they get back in touch and she is accepted. However, they want her to be some kind of pop princess but is she willing to sell herself out or not.

Enter The Basilisks, Venom, Zed and Ripper, a highly private heavy metal band that are Ash's idols. They give Ash the opportunity to be true to herself. It seems to me that Ripper and Venom are more honest with their feelings and don't want Ash to go away, Zed however is a little more complicated than that.

Overall this book was a lovely 5 star read for me when I got into it. It is a little bit of a slow burn but boy is it worth it. As always I am hoping for book 2 to be released soon because I need to read it. The ending was ... well I don't want to spoil it. All I have to say is I want more asap!!

This is the first book of a new series for this author and I cannot wait for book 2! Ash is such a wonderful character and she is fierce! After a viral video lands her in the summer music camp of her dreams, Ash is stuck trying to balance what people think of her because of the video with who she really is and wants to be. When she meets The Basilisks, we see her grow even more into herself and getting what she wants for herself.

There is a little spice here, but I anticipate there will be more in further installments. There is a cliffhanger here so if it's going to bother you, don't start the series yet! I also love some of the side characters, especially Cookie, so I hope they continue in the next book as well.
