aka my "i just love pretty and cool art, especially when it's lesbian/sapphic" list

a collection of books that were banned in the US simply for being lesbian/sapphic. i thought it would be fun to put them together in one place and share them so more people can find these gems and read them 🙂‍↕️💗 enjoy! note: i will be updating this list as i come across more titles!

I have spent years curating a list of graphic novels for myself on goodreads and I thought this place would be great to share it and share my love for graphic novels. I’m not picky about the plot or topics of the graphic novels I read so the list is pretty much any graphic novel I have heard of regardless of topic. Many are middle grade or young adult as is the general trend of the format but recommendations for more (especially adult) would be greatly appreciated.

Also manga is not included.

Books that are banned/challenged most often in the United States, based on data from the American Library Association. Resist censorship 🛑

All of these are from the list that Texas lawmaker Matt Krause in October of 2021 tried and in many cases succeeded to get banned from classrooms and school libraries. There are quite a few interesting and odd choices in there which is part of why I wanted to share this list on here. Not necessarily recommendations but there are some pretty good books on here. As well as a lot of textbooks

Complete list of graphic novels I've read across multiple genres and maturity levels. Includes standalones and series.

Read at your own risk. Some are good and others let's pretend they don't exist.

Recommendations are always welcome, feel free to comment.

In October 2021, Texas State Representative Matt Krause initiated an inquiry targeting a list of approximately 850 books in Texas public schools, alleging they could cause "discomfort, guilt, anguish, or any other form of psychological distress" regarding race or sex. The list disproportionately targeted LGBTQ+ topics, race/racism, and sex education.

This is my project to read through this list for myself - utilizing my local library system for access to these titles. Follow the journey or join along!

This is a list of as many banned and challenged books in Canada. Current sources are Penguin Random House Canada and Freedom To Read. This list will get updated the more I find stuff.

the 100 most frequently challenged/banned books in the US during the 2010s (for series, only the first book is listed)

(also: list is in reverse order because I added them in order from first to last)

Books that give summer vibes, are nice to read in the season, have vivid descriptions of the season or weather as a significant part of their plot, or otherwise take place in summer.

A list collecting all of Mariko Tamaki's backlist of standalones rather than issues of comics.

Most popular or most read books for young adults or middle grade.

Only the first book of a series will be added.

This is the first list of a couple I'm planning to make with banned or challenged books. This one is specifically for graphic novels. Suggestions are welcome and will be reviewed before being added. Please do your own research on the history of each book and enjoy your graphic novel shaped bit of rebellion 🔥
