Maya and Jacob met at a fancy gala. He rescued her from a guy who was going to spike her champagne with a date-rape drug. Jacob stayed with her for the rest of the night, partly to protect her but because he was interested in her. They spend the night together and then go their separate ways. The next day Maya finds out that Jacob is her next assignment (she's a reporter) and that he is the brother of her ex-boyfriend.
