Alternate Cover edition here. Troubled young Fawn Bluefield seeks a life beyond her family's farm. Enroute to the city, she encounters a patrol of Lakewalkers. The necromancers armed with human bone knives fight "malices", immortal entities that draw out life, enslaving humans and animals. Dag saves Fawn from a malice - at a devastating cost. Their fates are now bound in a remarkable journey.
I just reread Beguilement for the first time in over a decade. It's just as good as I remember, and it's still one of the more unique fantasy books I've read! I love the setting and the originality of the magic system. I'll admit, the significant age gap between Fawn and Dag does read a bit differently these days, but the book will remain a favorite of mine. Has anyone else here read it? What do you all think?
