I hired her to be my girlfriend. To fix my reputation. To save my career. It’s not that I don’t want a girlfriend. I do. I want it all. Wife, kids, side-by-side burial plots. The problem is – I can’t have any of it. So I’ve made myself untouchable. The quintessential bachelor of baseball. Because it’s not worth the risk. Not even for someone I love. Especially not for someone I love. We made the arrangements. We agreed to a contract. It’s iron clad. No sex. No love. No future. What could possibly go wrong?

Book 3 of The Perfect Game series. This is Sawyer's story. We started Book 1 with Caden. He had trust issues, but wasn't against the idea of falling in love. Next was Book 2 with Brady. He loved once and lost hard and wasn't looking for love again. In this book, we have Sawyer who had ZERO intentions of EVER being in a relationship because of his childhood. Aspen had a long, hard road ahead of her to convince him they deserved to love each other. Sawyer didn't want a girlfriend or any kind of relationship. He had hookups and never with the same woman more than once. He was becoming a liability to his team so he was given the warning to stop sleeping around or risk being traded. He decides to hire Aspen to be his girlfriend to make it appear as if he were following orders. But Aspen did her job a bit too well and they both fell for each other.

This one leaves me conflicted. I spent most of the book frustrated with Aspen. Maybe because I knew that Sawyer was screwed up and I expected more from Aspen. She seemed to have her life more together than Sawyer, but some of her actions were truly baffling. Sawyer, on the other hand, spent the whole book denying how he feels for Aspen, and then all of a sudden he decided on the 'go big or go home' tactic. The end was kind of jarring in the 180 he turned. I'm not convinced they're the right pair for each other, but it was cute seeing them get their HEA anyway.

Bass's book is next. I suppose it's going to be the start of a new series. Not sure how interested I am in that one. I didn't love him in this book.
