M.K. Deoradhán’s Trial of Bronze and Blood is a thrilling blend of deadly trials, political intrigue, and smouldering romance, all set against a richly detailed world inspired by the Roman Empire and the Italian coast. While the trials trope is one of my favourites, I’ve never read one that incorporated gladiator-style combat quite like this.

From the very first chapter, the immersive worldbuilding and high-stakes tension pulled me in. The grand spectacle of gladiatorial combat, the simmering romantic yearning, and the touch of fantasy elements all meld together seamlessly, creating a captivating story that keeps you on edge. The character dynamics are compelling, with morally gray choices and betrayals that leave a lasting impact.

The second half of the book slows down a bit more than I typically prefer, and I found myself wishing for a slightly faster pace to allow for a longer, more developed ending. The finale itself is shocking then I turned the page expecting more and couldn’t believe it was over! It definitely leaves you desperate for the next installment. I also had problems believing Dru was this powerhouse, not to be messed with woman when she was constantly obsessing over the MMC.

Despite these minor pacing issues, Trial of Bronze and Blood is a strong debut that masterfully blends action, romance, and morally complex characters. If you’re looking for a story filled with betrayal, longing, deadly trials, and a world that feels both brutal and mesmerizing, this one is a must-read.
