Not my usual genre and needed some 100 pages to really get into it. The short story format where you follow a different character every 30-40 pages put me off at first, but after a while the stories start to fit together and it becomes a riveting, beautiful tale. Not one of the characters is unlikeable, but all of them are flawed in a way. An emotional read about life, happiness and human connection. A rare non-classical five stars from me!
I read the Dutch translation De Avondschool by WVK-groep and it was one of the most comfortable translations I've read.
