Of course after reading this authors ‘Home For Unwanted Girls’, I now have to read everything they’ve ever written. This one doesn’t hold a candle to its predecessor but it did hold my attention which is no easy feat.
It took me through a few different decades and put a spotlight on some of the political unrest and Montreal’s separatists—it may sound rather dull, but it was kept pretty interesting thanks to the way the author chose to show opposing sides.
I love that it followed some of the same characters we met in ‘Home For Unwanted Girls’, and despite showing lots of different trials held by different people in different walks of life and being rather dark, it also manages to be hopeful. Only a truly skilled writer could pull all of that off, I think.
4 stars.
