A loving but humorous homage to the genres of romantasy and fantasy, The Heart of Faerie is a portal adventure for anyone who has ever wanted to get swept away in their favorite book, and for those who realize that maybe such a thing wouldn't work out quite so well in reality as it does for their favorite main character. It is coming of age story both for the 19 year old Vivi and also her 40 year old mother Jenn - because sometimes being 40 feels like just as much a moment to find and reinvent yourself as being 19 does. This book, meant for adults 18+, is the first of an already written, but not yet released trilogy which includes a HEA for all main characters by the end of the trilogy and wraps up at least one HEA for each individual book.The realm of Faerie has been slowly breaking apart under a curse for the last thousand years. It's a curse that only the chosen one of a prophecy can heal (isn't that always the way?), so playboy fae prince Alastair and his oldest friend, the stoic fae warrior Killian, go to the human realm to "retrieve" the Chosen One. In doing so they kidnap Vivi Rider, their last resort to save their world. Luckily for them, while Vivi may only be nineteen and a freshman in college, she is eagerly prepared to save Faerie. In fact, she's pretty sure she could also tame a dragon and help perform a coup, should the need arise. She has, after all, read every romantasy book she could ever get her hands on and is positive that she knows exactly what to expect.The only problem is that Vivi isn't the Chosen One. Her forty year old mother Jenn is actually the Chosen One and the fae men grabbed the wrong woman. Now instead of leading the charge to saving the world or being seduced by a handsome fae love interest, Vivi has to wrestle with the fact that her mother, with whom she already has a tense relationship, is actually the Main Character instead of her, that this isn't the first time Jenn's been to the realm of Faerie, and that maybe Vivi's books have gotten just a few things wrong.Meanwhile Jenn must contend with a return to the land that she equal part loves and hates, a prophecy that she was never able to fulfill, and two men with whom she has some very long unresolved issues. Unlike last time, she also has a lifetime of baggage to drag with her along with her daughter Vivi, who keeps talking about things like Only One Bed, and Sharing a Horse while Jenn just wants to finally save the world and get this over with.
