Bain (Pittsburgh Titans, #9)

Enjoyment: Quality: Characters: Plot:

Bain Hillridge is new to the Titans and he’s building relationships with his new team, both on and off the ice. If only he could keep his hands off his teammate’s little sister. I loved playing for the Arizona Vengeance but I’m stoked to be part of the legacy the Pittsburgh Titans is building. A team that has risen from the ashes, I’m eager to help them achieve their goal of winning a championship. I’m also looking forward to becoming part of a new hockey family. A night out with my new mates introduces me to the little sister of our goalie, Drake McGinn, and I’m powerless to resist her. Keira and I have an instant and insatiable attraction and it doesn’t take long before we find ourselves tangled up in one another. While Drake has declared his sister off limits, I’m not deterred because I always go for what I want. I refuse to heed Drake’s warnings and take great pleasure in goading him every chance I get. It’s become one of my favorite hobbies, outside of making his sister scream my name. As things with Keira get hotter, feelings start to develop making it a little more complicated than we intended. But a bucket of ice-cold water is tossed on our relationship and we’re forced to reprioritize everything. Neither of us were looking for more than a hot fling but fates get twisted all the time. Faced with tough decisions, Keira and I know that no matter what choices we make, our lives are never going to be the same. Bain contains subject matter that may be sensitive to some readers. These two and their banter! I love it! The chemistry is amazing, the banter is fun and sexy, and the tender moments are unexpected yet swoony. Watching the attraction between Bain and Keira grow from desire to deep feelings was by turn a joy and heartwrenching.

Keira is so generous with her time and her love when it comes to her family and friends, often to the detriment of her own happiness and wants. At times it seems Bain is the only that realizes that. He notices when she is suppressing her own needs in order to help her loved ones. To be fair, it seems Keira herself doesn’t even realize how much she gives up for others. It makes her happy to support her brother and nephews and she’s very close with them so it often doesn’t feel like she’s missing anything. Being with Bain, even if they are keeping it a secret, helps her to see that she is keeping her life to a very small circle.

Bain was cemented into my heart when Kiera became pregnant and he is so supportive and vocal about supporting her and her decision, no matter what. I’m leary, these days, of pregnancy stories. Especially unexpected pregnancies. I felt the “reveal” was handled wonderfully. The author does a fantastic job of portraying the gamut of emotions both parties go through when the pregnancy is lost. My gut was hollowed out but I also know from experience that things just don’t make sense when you’re going through something like that and your emotions are a roller coaster.

Unfortunately, there isn’t a lot I can say without huge spoilers. I thoroughly enjoyed how superbly Bain and Keira supported each other, even during their low times. They may not have been together the whole time, but neither ever truly blamed the other for how things were going. They just needed to get out of their own way. When they did my heart soared. Especially when Keira took her stand, she had me laughing while I was cheering her on.
