In this second installment of the series, Queen Sybilla has saved her land—but not without making a deal with someone she initially sees as the devil. Now bound in a marriage of convenience, King Krait Darvanda harbors his own secrets, though he ultimately shares the same goal: saving his people.

I said this about book one, and I’ll say it again—this was seriously impressive for a second installment. Mariet Kay writes like a seasoned pro. Enemies-to-lovers is one of my favorite tropes, and these two truly hate each other, which makes the forced proximity even more delicious. I’m also realizing how much I enjoy political intrigue in fantasy, and this book delivers on that front. With twists, turns, and even more action than book one, it kept me hooked.

And let’s talk about the EMOTIONAL DAMAGE—this book pulls at your heartstrings hard. Fantasy lovers will eat this one up, and I can’t wait to see where the story goes next!
