Let's talk about this finale. It went exactly as I expected it to, but it also didn't. As for after the final battle, things were about what I expected them to be. But it was the journey to get there that was so different from what you normally see in YA. This book took precious page time and showed us Fletcher and his friends working through things that would have taken months to do. In some ways it felt like this was two separate books, on either side of the demon realm.

But I liked it! I can definitely understand how some people wouldn't have liked the set up of this book but I think this was a great way to tell this story exactly as it needed to without making it a five book series and most of it being filler that wasn't important. Did it make this last one feel a bit disjointed? Yes. But I prefer this to whole books where nothing happens other than some pivotal scenes at the end.
