Prairie Lotus is a book about a girl determined to fit in and realize her dreams: getting an education, becoming a dressmaker in her father's shop, and making at least one friend. Hanna, a half-Asian girl in a small town in America's heartland, lives in 1880. Hanna's adjustment to her new surroundings, and the townspeople's prejudice against Asians, is at the heart of the story.

Highly Recommended. 2021 Black Eyed Susan Nominee
OMG - this book is so good! Absolutely a contender for my 'Best Book of 2021'.
For anyone who has ever loved the Little House on the Prairie books, this book is a perfect way to show another side of the frontier life. It is also interesting to me, as the characters traveled EAST, from Los Angeles to the Dakota plains.
CW: There is an attempted sexual assault, and a lot of racism depicted in this book.
Due to some of the more serious content, this book would be best for upper elementary and above.
This is a wonderful read and perfect for fans of the Little House books! Park does a great job combining bigger issues like racism alongside smaller issues like trying to gain friends in a way that allows every reader to connect with Hannah in their own way.
