When I started this book, I didn’t feel the the instant connection as I usually did with Kent’s books but boy did it hit me by surprise! This book was beautiful and incredible. Cleo and Zach were so raw and different from her other characters but more so Zach. The reason for that is because, although his POVs weren’t long and as details as her other male characters, she showed his emotions more than she did with the other male characters in her books. Zach was broken and it showed and I loved that. I loved seeing vulnerability there even though he tried to put up an armor and show his harsh demeanor instead. I loved seeing him show his lighthearted side and his teasing moments. He wasn’t just a hard, broken shell. He wasn’t a tormented individual that couldn’t be saved, that couldn’t find the light, Cleo was that for him. The light at the end of the tunnel. The stars in his sky.
I also loved seeing Cleo and Zach’s relationship evolve and I didn’t feel like their story was rushed. I felt it was perfect. Kent always has the power of making me feel like I’m in the story and feel everything. My heart ached at the heartbreaking moments and I cried until I ran out of my tissues. I guess I also felt a strong connection with the characters because of their pasts with bullying and in no way do I feel like she romanticized the subject. It was actually very heartwarming and inspiring how she wrote about the strength of the bullied. I definitely wish that was something I had read when I went through that a few years ago.
Read this if you haven’t. I recommend this wholeheartedly. You won’t regret it ♥️
