Librarian Note: This is the original cover edition of ASIN: B008H6GJJK. The alternate cover edition is here. A TIME FOR WAR… A casualty of the war between the demons and the vampires, Jase Kayrs has been missing for six long years. His older brothers want answers—but they’re going to have to get them from an unlikely source. For when Kane Kayrs tracks down Amber Freebird, what he finds is a blonde, vegan pacifist who has no intention of using her skills in his war… A TIME FOR LOVE… Amber enjoys her life of chaotic freedom and has no intention of falling in line just because a sexy-as-sin vampire insists on order. Unfortunately, he discovers she may be the only hope they have of finding his brother, and there’s no way he’s going to let her go—even if it means mating her to gain her cooperation. The two are as different as can be, yet when the dominant Kane and the untamed Amber finally unite to rescue Jase, they just may find that opposites really do attract…

Oh Kane. I just knew when he fell it would confuse him more than any of the other Kayrs brothers. With his logic and science, having to deal with something that’s felt and not seen and proven is very hard for him.

Amber is great for Kane. She refuses to settle for anything but 100% from him. While Amber and Kane cannot deny their chemistry, it’s not logical so Kane tries to deny that it means anything. But what it really comes down to is he’s afraid of getting hurt. Same with Amber. She might say she holds Kane at arm’s length because he won’t admit his feelings, but she’s just as afraid as he seems to be.

On top of having to deal with all those pesky feelings, Amber and Kane are trying to find Jase Kayrs. Kane’s brother was taken by the demons years ago and Amber is the only Demon Destroyer the Kingdom has come across in too many years to count. Amber was not even aware of Vampires, Witches, or that she is a powerful Destroyer so she has to learn how to use her gift before much can be done to help Jase.

Throughout this story, we are shown Jase and given a look into the terrible things he’s being subjected to and the turmoil it causes. My heart just breaks for him and his situation. While we know how close his brothers are to finding and saving him, he has no clue if they even know he’s alive. Plus, he has a female demon who is “helping” him while also trying to seduce him.

As always, we get bits and pieces of Janie and her boys…although they’re all quite grown up now. I’ll admit, I still often see Janie as a very young girl in pigtails instead of the fully grown and powerful woman she has become. I believe Zane and Kalin often make the same mistake, which has helped Janie in this book.

I loved the heat and passion between Kane and Amber in this story. I am delighted Amber questions her place because of her limited education, and then comes to terms with the fact not one of the “geniuses” around her give two figs about that. They teach her that a diploma does not measure one’s intellect. She teaches Kane that there’s more to life than science and intelligence. Those warm fuzzies kept coming at me throughout this whole book.

Although I don’t believe the next book deals with Jase getting his HEA, I’m looking forward to the day he heals. To the extent that anyone can heal after such an ordeal. Even more than Jase’s story, I cannot wait to really meet Zane. I know it will come eventually, and I have a feeling it will be epic!
