The story of Jackson and Laney takes place in a sort of bubble for the most part. Best friends (with benefits quite often) since childhood, they head off on their annual camping trip the day after Laney receives a marriage proposal. While Laney has the decision to make, they both have to face how their relationship will change no matter what her answer. Obviously, they will not be able to fall into bed any time they please if she makes a monogamous commitment to another person, but if she says no to him does that mean she should expect a commitment from Jackson?

Having the pair alone in the middle of the woods for the majority of this story works really well. They cannot escape their feelings or push things off until later. Of course, that leads to tensions amping up until they decide to head home early. Once their back in the real world, they both have decisions to make whether they’re ready or not.

There is a lot of chemistry, both in the sheets and out, with these two. I didn’t feel we saw the rest of the Wild clan as much in this story, but they didn’t need to play a huge part in Jackson’s story. He was beating himself up enough without his brothers piping in too much. I didn’t quite understand Laney’s problem with what her answer to the proposal would be, no matter how great a person is you shouldn’t commit to a life with them if your heart isn’t all in. But she had to work through things on her own so I had to be patient.

I know the next series of short stories this author wrote has to do with friends of the Wild brothers, the Bad brothers. The author has given us peeks of them throughout this series and I cannot wait to read Dylan Bad’s story. He intrigues me. He’s quite wise when he comes to giving advice, will he be as adept at following his own wisdom?
