Before they became beloved films, they were stories on the page. Here are the books that inspired the Studio Ghibli movies! Some are direct adaptations and others were used as inspiration. Note: not all of them have been translated to English (yet).

I learned wayyyyy too late in my life that most of the Ghibli movies were derived from books. Some we know about, like Howl's Moving Castle, some we don't, like I didn't know Kiki's Delivery Service was a novel originally! So I've decided to make a list for the Ghibli enjoyers who want to take a look at where these wonderful movies sprout from 😁

From bedtime stories to GCSE flashbacks, this is the source of all that is wrong with me and my countrymen.

The Carnegie's are the United Kingdom's major children's book awards. There are awards for both writing and illustration. This list is for the Carnegie Medal for Writing, which is chosen by children's librarians for exceptional books written in English for children and young people. The medals are awarded by CILIP and the Youth Libraries Group.
