This book, the first novel of Uzbek writer Isajon Sulton, is a magical realist tale of epic breadth. Cursed by God for refusing Christ s request to rest on the wall of his home during his procession to Golgotha, the eponymous eternal wanderer, based in part on the medieval legend of the Wandering Jew, traverses space and time in search of the meaning of his existence and his relationship to God. Sulton s novel combines Quranic stories, Sufi thought, and Christian mythology to weave a tale that questions the limits of human knowledge and the benefits of technological modernity.
