Fake Dating the Player

Clarissa McKay

Enjoyment: Quality: Characters: Plot:

My cocky next-door neighbor is the most infuriating person in the world--so why did I just hookup with him? Although we pretty much grew up together, we've never managed to get along. I guess he's good-looking, with his perfect hair, amazing hockey-player physique, and boyish smile... if you're into that. Which I’m totally not. Our moms are besties, and they’ve been planning our engagement since we were little kids. I'm *so* over it... He’s an arrogant athlete that goes through girls like Kleenex, and his teammates joke that he’s incapable of a relationship. My roommate comes up with the perfect plan: fake date each other to get our parents and his team off our backs. I guess we do have something in common: wanting to prove everyone else wrong. Now everyone is talking about my post-game congratulatory kiss instead of his game-winning goal. We're fooling everyone on campus plus our families, and I gotta say, I don't hate it. Turns out the hardest part isn’t faking feelings for him... It’s trying to hide my true ones.

Nathan and Josie grew up together along with her cousin Julie. They were all friends, until they grew up and grew apart. For years, they've really been frenemies - they could talk and act friendly when needed, but they didn't really like each other. One night right before they return to school, Nathan takes Josie home and they have sex. When it's done, they are both determined it's never going to happen again. But then Josie's roommate suggests a solution that might get both their families and his friends off their backs -- they should fake date. Their families have been determined that they are "fated" since they were children. Will they be able to pull off fake dating or will no one be fooled? What happens when they both start to have feelings that are not fake?

I loved both Nathan and Josie. Nathan is tough and funny and when he stops fighting with Josie, he's really pretty sweet. He thinks he doesn't know how to be a boyfriend, but he's pretty good at it. He softens some of her serious side. Josie is dedicated to her studies and being the best she can be. She's always trying to make everyone else happy, often to her detriment.
