Recs if you like The New Me...

Books that are atmospheric, emotionally unsettling, beautifully written, a little weird, and linger long after you finish them.

as we approach the end of the year, i thought of compiling a collection of short audiobooks for anyone trying to sneak more books onto their read list or for those trying to complete reading challenges! best of luck! 🌟

books with characters who are in their 20s (and trying to figure out their 20s). primarily but not exclusively lit fic.

Corporate satire and other fiction set in the office/workplace, because apparently your 9-5 just isn’t enough!

covers topics such as:

• critical theory
• the far right
• race
• gender
• neoliberalism & more !!

Romance, Genre Fiction, or Literary Fiction novels for Childfree folks where its explicit that a main character is Childfree (and they aren't teenagers) and starting a family/having kids is not mentioned as a goal. For those of us who don't always want to read about a happy ending involving kiddos (even thought we love them!). Please feel free to add suggestions 😊

my favorite genre. elvia wilk’s essay is the best on what this genre is, but here’s an excerpt: “Weird knowledge does not deny the capacity of the human mind and body to produce knowledge, but it does not reduce the world to human subject experience either. Unlike science fiction—in which there is a rational explanation for everything—and fantasy—where magic explains it all—weirdness hovers between poles of explainability.”

This list is dedicated for all the book recommended and mentioned by Louisa Munch - critical theorist. I follow her Instagram account almost from the very first videos. Louisa inspired me to organise better my political reading and she always gives some nice recommendations to inform yourself about the political landscape of today. I just wanted to have all the books in one place, plus the ones which I found on my own reading journey.

We can't have a democracy without informed citizens - Louisa Toxvaerd Munch

fiction about capitalism, surveillance, and how the jobs we work to survive impact our sense of self

A list of books I have come across when looking for books that fit this theme. Please leave a comment if there is something I should add.

Motivational posters, loyalty oaths, HR "family culture", retreats that feel like indoctrination, hustle worship, and LinkedIn messiah energy.

All sorts of stories about all sorts of women. Mostly litfic, some horror.

free me from this capitalistic hellscape!

Books where apathy, disengagement, and idleness are central themes.

Shorter books (around 200 pages) to get out of a reading slump or to help pad your stats. Comment if you want recommendations, I’ve read a lot of these.

weird girl lit

Stories of alienation, quiet rebellion, and existential reflection. Women stumbling, pretending, resisting, and somehow surviving in a world that rarely makes sense.
