Thanks BookSirens for this ARC - another 3.5-rounded-up-to-4 for me. I really like anthologies as I love when an author can tell a story without dragging things out, though I think a few of the stories did suffer from their brevity.

The Silver Whistle: I loved the ideas in this story but I REALLY wanted to know at least a tiny bit about the why or how. I think this would have been brilliant with a bit more character development and backstory.

When You Hear them Scream: I liked the little bit of history brought into this story through the past timeline - I'd have loved that to be more fleshed out. Some aspects confused me a little and the ending was okay, not wow.

A Little Blood and a Broken Cage: Loved this story. I felt that this one had the right blend of context and current plot, and a small cast that meant you got to know the main characters quickly. I thought Persi was brilliant and I think this story would work really well as a film or television adaptation as well; the descriptions were so strong.

That Thing in the House with the Arched Roof: I thought a few things were a little too simplistic - having the right items at the right time without really understanding them seemed a bit of a cop-out - but I liked the story well enough. I was intrigued by the concept of diminishing shadows and would definitely love to explore more along that storyline.

You Can Close Your Eyes: This story felt too basic and a bit boring overall. I wasn't captivated by what happened and I thought it was quite cliche.

A Mother's Love: I was gripped at the beginning, having seen a film with a similar premise to this book. Some of the character interaction lost me a bit, and then the ending just seemed very primitive. Good potential, but it didn't hit the mark for me.
