After escaping an abusive relationship, Megan needed to get away for the Christmas season. So, her and her best friend head to Bear Mountain, Vermont. There she finds a peace and happiness that she was missing in her life – coming in the form of a burly and grizzly like man. She wasn’t looking for a relationship but found one in him just in time for Christmas.
I found this book to be charming and sweet. And I rather enjoyed the writing, despite the POV Kassandra writes in. There was an enjoyment to the way her book flowed that I barely recognized I was reading a third person type of story. It was as if she walked a fine line with first and third. But it wasn’t bad to read, she switched writing POVs with ease and it’s a unique style I haven’t quite seen a whole lot of. I just think with the issues at hand for both the fmc and our love interest, it prevented me to really get to the depths of the characters as a reader.
The main characters were leaning too vanilla in my opinion, however there were glimpses of more depth to them in each chapter. That little bit of hope had me continue reading on. Now, the best friend Alyssa was full of life and energy. Not sure if there is a book about her out there, but if Kassandra wrote it, I plan to read it.
My only major downside of this book is how much more I wanted. And if you have followed me, you know I am greedy when it comes to my book reads – the details, world builds, and character arcs are my obsession. It just felt like the book was just getting started and I feel like Mason, our love interest, has a whole back story I would love to dive into.
A Bear for Christmas was a fun short read and I give it 3.5 phases It was a good taste of Kassandra’s writing style that has wet my appetite. I plan to explore her other works in the near future.
